Baking fever is sweeping through Cornwall this summer, and with the announcement that Cliffs House is hosting a popular baking contest, Julianne and her friends couldn't be more excited -- until Dinah announces that she's one of the chosen contestants! Julianne promises herself to do everything possible to support her friend in the face of stiff competition ... and two extremely competitive international judges...all while learning a few lessons in the kitchen under the oh-so-close tutelage of Matthew himself.

With love as the secret ingredient, and sparks flying from more than the contestants' caramelizing torches, Book Five in the bestselling Cornwall series is a recipe for summer romance!

How I'm loving this series, and given I love baking in books, and generally watching Bake Off style programmes, this book was always going to be a winner for me! And thankfully once I started it, I wasn't disappointed.

Was fabulous to be back in Ceffylgwyn and Cliffs House, and can't believe its already book 5 of this series, and able to catch up with Julianne, Kitty and the team. This time around we have a big TV baking contest as the event being organised, and not only that but Dinah, has been chosen to compete too.

Fans of the series already know what a talented cook Dinah is, so seeing what she comes up with over the three rounds of competition is mind blowing. Not only do we see what great bakes she is capable of, but the descriptions of some of the competitors bakes too, is testament to the great imagination of the author.

Matthew is also trying to teach Julianne how to cook, with some interesting and amusing outcomes.

However this book isn't just about Julianne and Matthew. This time we also get further insights into Kitty's character, with sections dedicated to just her. She is sort of cultivating a fledgling romance, but I was more interested in her family interactions, which I can't help but think will become more and more relevant in some way as the series progresses.

This could be read as a standalone book, especially by cake lovers, but each book in the series is more of a short novella, so catching up in its entirety isn't as scary as with a series of this length of 400+ page books!

Overall another great addition to the series, which I have once again really enjoyed reading.

Thank you Laura Briggs for this copy, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

  1. I have read a few of Laura's books although none in this series. I love foodie books and cake ones even more so. Sounds like a series I would love.
